 To make a bright object using composite nodes, follow the configurations of this snapshot. You will get something like a lightsaber effect.
The glow effect may be done easily with composite nodes. The image get glow and bright, like a light saber.
The idea is simple: create a object 3d, add two bright layers and get this result:
